Here to Help
I believe that people have unlimited capacity. I work to support others in exploring the challenges in their own lives; relationships; and that arise in pursuit of goals. My professional background in mental health and substance use (addictions) has offered me experience working with others to address complex challenges. It is a privilege to join others on their journey and I am fortunate to engage in this work on the traditional lands of the Lekwungen Peoples.
Curiosity, compassion, and an open mind are central to my work. Over the past few years I have witnessed the power of support when addressing challenges. If you are exploring the idea of counselling, you are already on your way. In the process of coming to understand unique individuals, families, and youth; new insights, options and skills are identified. Modalities that have influenced my practice are Narrative; Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT); Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFT & EFFT); Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT); and Feedback Informed Therapy (FIT). Practice approach is determined through a collaborative process in consideration of what modality fits client goals.
I have been fortunate over the past decade to work with youth and families of diverse cultural backgrounds. Furthermore, I have been privileged to work with youth and families in the LGBTQ2A+ community. I hope to welcome you into an inviting, comfortable experience in which your culture, values, and beliefs will not only be respected but embraced in our work together.
With a background in psychiatric settings I am comfortable supporting those with mental health and substance use related concerns. I do not provide formal assessments or diagnostic reports.
Following a significant surgery in my younger days, it was essential to shift from a trades focus to a career with a little less heavy lifting, at least in a physical sense. My journey to becoming a Registered Clinical Counsellor started with the non-profit sector, where I worked in support roles which ranged from group homes to programs related to mental health and substance use. I attended Camosun College, transferring to the University of Victoria, where I completed Undergraduate (2013) and Masters Degrees (2022) in the School of Child and Youth Care. To make the most of my academic ventures, I worked along side my studies in progressive environments which offered greater exposure to clinical work in various settings (inpatient, out patient, and community). I began working for Island Health in 2013, initially as a Child and Youth Mental Health Counsellor, followed by a position as a Youth and Family Substance Use Counsellor in 2015. Spring 2024, I joined the Victoria Early Psychosis Intervention program as a Concurrent Disorders Clinician.
My private practice began in December 2022 following registration with the BCACC.
